Our ultimate goal is to end gender-based violence, especially in informal and rural settlements, and create a society where everyone is safe and respected.
Backgrounds
The GBV committee is a collection of gender activists from all social justice centres. They are responsible for documenting, accessing, monitoring, and referring gender-based violence cases, as well as conducting awareness-raising activities in informal and rural settlements. Part of our efforts is to hold perpetrators of gender-related violence accountable. We also provide survivors with access to legal and medical services, as well as psychological and emotional support. As part of our efforts to address SGBV, we have gender desks in 42 rural and informal settlements. In the past two years, we have referred over 2900 cases to different partners. We also provide training, legal aid clinics, and community forums to raise awareness about prevention and response to SGBV. We also work with community leaders and local government agencies such as police gender desks, and children’s officers to ensure they respond to SGBV.
