From Strategy to Action: Social Justice Centres Working Group Strengthens Rollout of Feminist Curriculum

The Social Justice Centres Working Group (SJCWG) has successfully concluded a two-day strategic workshop dedicated to planning the rollout of its Feminist Curriculum, marking an important milestone in strengthening feminist political education and grassroots movement building across Kenya.

The workshop brought together organizers, movement leaders, and community educators to develop a shared implementation framework that will guide how the curriculum is introduced and integrated within social justice centres and community-based programmes. Participants reflected on the purpose of the curriculum, its expected impact, and the collective responsibility of ensuring that feminist principles become an integral part of organizing for social justice.

Throughout the two days, participants explored practical strategies for delivering the curriculum safely and effectively. Discussions focused on identifying target communities, selecting appropriate training approaches, building the capacity of trainers, and developing an implementation roadmap with clear timelines, roles, and responsibilities. Particular emphasis was placed on safeguarding participants, recognizing that feminist organizing often takes place in challenging environments where activists and vulnerable groups require protection and support.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of data-led feminist organizing. Participants examined how evidence, community experiences, and documented realities can shape learning content, strengthen advocacy, and ensure that the curriculum responds to the real needs of women, children, and marginalized communities. By grounding the curriculum in lived experiences, the movement aims to make feminist education relevant, practical, and transformative.

As part of the rollout strategy, SJCWG committed to integrating feminist learning into its existing programmes rather than treating it as a standalone initiative. This approach will ensure that conversations on gender justice, equality, equity, leadership, care, and human rights become part of everyday community organizing. Participants reaffirmed that protecting the rights of women and children is inseparable from the broader struggle for social justice, dignity, and democratic participation.

The workshop concluded with clear commitments and an agreed roadmap for implementation. As the curriculum is rolled out across the Social Justice Centres network, it is expected to strengthen grassroots leadership, promote inclusive organizing, challenge harmful social norms, and build communities where equality, equity, and justice are lived realities. Through this initiative, the Social Justice Centres Working Group continues to invest in political education as a powerful tool for building resilient, informed, and people-centered movements committed to lasting social transformation.
