About Me:
Peally Salim Swaleh is a Gender Practitioner, human rights defender and a practicing counselling psychologist based in Kilifi. Passionate about community service and triggered by injustice, with a few like-minded community members she founded Nawiri Africa, a female led non-profit, community based social justice centre serving underserved locals advocating for SRHR, gender equality and equity, climate action and curbing sexual violence as she steers the Youth, Peace and Security agenda
at the Kenyan Coast.
In her role as the Coast Region Convener and the first female chapter convener in the Social Justice Movement owing to the conducive environment granted by the movement for female inclusion in leadership, she currently convenes 12 centres with some being under mentorship, yet to be fully absorbed. Other than being part of implementors of a project that focuses on preventing and responding to gender-based violence exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic funded by the Norwegian Embassy, she is also vocal on the food sovereignty campaign by article 43 committee of the movement that seeks to encourage citizens to venture into farming in order to tackle the high cost of living while championing for Sustainable Development Goal 2. Additionally, she is a member of Kilifi County Gender stakeholders, pillar head for the Gender thematic pillar of the Kilifi County Action Plan on Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism, assistant secretary of the Coalition of CSOs in Kilifi county, advocacy technical team member of the Kenya Coalition Youth, Peace and Security a member of Rotary International. Besides providing pro bono psychosocial support to survivors of GBV, Violent extremism and other atrocities through Nawiri Africa Social Justice Centre, she also provides pro bono legal assistance. Peally seeks to provide a safe space for all in community regardless of status, religion, physical ability or color. She strongly believes that achieving this vision
requires joint effort and partnerships.
